Description

There are small encounters and missed connections that we experience throughout life and through imagination, and which we leave forgotten in a corner of memory. Peeking Through the Crack speaks of small things like the wings of a ladybug, a roof through which dreams leak, and a curious neighbor. But who said these things don't hold surprises?

From each encounter, we gather a dose of comfort or inspiration, and from the missed connections, a powerful seed can be born, capable of becoming a grown tree within each of us.

Peeking Through the Crack uses everyday life as its stage. The 22 cracks in the book offer a curious look at issues that fascinate or disturb, always issues that touch on a sensitive point in life.

"Winged Dream," the opening text, leads to a subtle questioning of the prisons we invent and the freedoms we conquer. The girl receives a bird that accompanies her growth through the cracks in a cage. A parallel is drawn between the animal's imprisonment, the girl's freedom, and the questioning of the adult world, which seeks to preserve a space without constraints.

The chronicle that gives the book its title narrates the encounters of a child with the resident of the neighboring apartment. How long would that boy spy on his neighbor arriving home at the end of the day? And how much would this please or annoy the neighbor, accustomed to the anonymity of the big city?

Sibélia Zanon's prose seeks the poetic and frequently delves into childhood: a space conducive to the discoveries of existence and also a simple and unpretentious territory, capable of revealing the complex truths of adult life.

The book includes unpublished texts, as well as others already published in the periodical "Literatura do Graal". The texts are accompanied by illustrations by Fátima Seehagen, illustrations that embrace playfulness and offer the reader an expanding space to imagine, contemplate, and savor their own thoughts.
